Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching students in New York City is a unique and exciting experience because the students are unique and exciting. Our Queens middle school represents students from all over the world. Just this year, I have students from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Poland, and China. Although my students struggle with learning disabilities and speech and language impairments, they put forth tremendous efforts to make academic gains each year! Many do this while simultaneously learning to speak English.

Students with disabilities are too often marginalized by society, and not given enough platforms to share their excellence and abilities.

Many of my students are also faced with the challenge of being immigrants and or having parents that are immigrants. The vast majority of my students also live in homes without computers and tablets. Although some have access to smartphones, they often do not have internet and or wifi at their home. They deserve to work with state of the art technology in the classroom just like everyone else.

My Project

My students are eager to get started this September and need the proper tools to hit the ground running. Many young learners are facing challenges this school year as we all return to in class instruction. It is essential that they have access to paper, pens, and other classroom supplies so they can begin their educational journey this year prepared for classroom activities.

Students are excited to learn in September, and don't want to worry about having enough personal supplies to begin working during the first days of school.

When students have tape, ink, and other classroom basics such as, Kleenex, they can feel comfortable and confident that their room and book bags are full of all the tools that make learning fun, creative, and productive!
