My Students

As a second year speech therapist in a low income/high poverty school my students are faced with many challenges in and outside of the classroom. They are growing up in a variety of settings and situations that makes it difficult for them to succeed in school. In addition many of them require special education services due to their learning challenges. Given the many challenges they face in their education and in their community I would like to give them meaningful opportunities to gain strategies and improve their goals through a variety of differentiated therapeutic approaches to improve their overall academic success and socialization. My students are eager and motivated to learn given the appropriate learning tools and instruction. They benefit from repetitions and they require a multi modality approach to learning information. These materials would allow my students to improve their skills inside and outside of the classroom environment. By providing them with a variety of approaches my students are motivated to practice and carry over their skills into the classroom setting.

My Project

My students need new speech folders to start off the school year. Many of them have been using the same folders for at least the last 2-3 years after we taped it back and stapled it. I promised them everyone would get a new speech folder this year however the financial burden of paying for it myself takes a toll on my personal finances. I am hoping to be able to provide some new speech folders for my kiddos this school year. Please help support my students to be able to get them new speech folders for the beginning of the year. I hope to have this completed before the school year begins so that they can arrive to speech with new folders.

The speech folders would hold any of their resources as well as worksheets that are completed and incomplete worksheets.

These folders are an essential component of our speech room as they are often used every day. The students like to personalize and decorate their folders at the beginning of each school year. They maintain organization in my speech room and are solely for each student.

At parent teacher conferences and IEP meetings I am able to grab a child's speech folder to share with their parents the work they have completed and progress they are making to help them carry over the skills and strategies from the speech room at home. It also helps the parents understand how to help their child with the speech homework. It is a good reference for myself, the children and their parents to reflect on the progress the child has made.
