This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My life and career is and always will be filled with the most diverse and beautiful children. As a Speech Language Pathologist Aid I am given the opportunity to work with up to 20-35 students in one school year that all range in age and ability.

I work in ABA rooms where most students are on the spectrum or have some kind of learning or behavioral difficulty due to their disability.

The district I work for is not only currently undergoing budget cuts, among others, it's also one of the highest in poverty rates compared to others. I want my students to come to class and feel comfortable and excited when present. Without a proper classroom environment students with disabilities can be very limited as far as what they can do and touch. With a little more creativity and help from the community they can have an education of higher quality.

My Project

This will be my first year at the school and with that comes contributing to another classroom, or in my case a few because my students are split up into multiple ABA rooms based on their level of abilities and needs.

It's important that the tools I bring in can be left behind or transferred from one room to an other with ease.

With the dabbers I can turn an articulation lesson into a craft for students to hang or bring home or a tool for an OT to use as well. With tablets the possibilities are endless from a communication device to a drawing pad.

My goal is to make classrooms more language based to enable students to communicate with more ease, therefore succeeding more successfully in all academic and social areas. In order for this to be successful I need some special tools like communication buttons so that they may express what their wants. Chewy Tubes so that they can calm their nerves and focus on the lesson. These little things can make a huge difference in these student's academic success and lives socially as well.
