My Students

Our building is old, our furniture is worn, and our toys are in desperate need of replacement.

The pre-kindergarten classrooms at our elementary school currently serve 60 students and their families from neighborhoods throughout the city of Pittsburgh.

Our students are three to five years old and represent the diverse population of our city, including many English-language learners and students with special needs. The majority of our students meet Federal income requirements for Head Start, meaning that a family of three has a maximum annual income of just over $20,000.

For many of our students, our classrooms are their first experience away from home and in a school setting.

Our students are just beginning their educational journeys, and it is our goal to make learning exciting, fun, and engaging. They are curious and love exploring their environment and the world around them. It is our job to provide what they need to facilitate their learning and growth.

Thank you in advance!

My Project

My pre-kindergarten students will soon be beginning a brand new school year. This year will be the first time that I have had students in-person for 5 days a week since March 2020. I am so excited that my students will finally be able to enjoy the consistency and reliability of a full school week. I am looking forward to providing a classroom that allows my students to thrive and be their best selves.

Young children learn best through play.

Play helps to nurture imagination and creativity, contributes to brain development, and fosters the growth of communication and language skills. Play is truly the key to learning for early childhood students.

One of the best times during our school day is Center Time. It’s the opportunity for students to make their own choices, socialize with friends, problem solve, and just have fun. Students look forward to Center Time everyday. Students can also begin school feeling shy or unsure. Seeing an enticing Dramatic Play center can quickly chase those nervous feelings away! While Dramatic play is a favorite center among students, I am missing some vital pieces. I need a kitchen set so my students can pretend to cook, bake, run a restaurant, wash the dishes, etc. New furniture is expensive and I don’t have the funds to purchase any myself. I would be so grateful to receive these items through the help of Donors so my students won’t be missing out.
