My Students

Our students are a diverse and dynamic community of 3-8 graders attending CSS in Portland, Oregon. We are a focus-option K-8 public school that relies on inquiry and offers students opportunities to research and discover answers to their own questions. Our school utilizes integrated studies, simulations and Storyline curriculum to promote critical thinking and to present students with provocative essential questions and classrooms that value collaboration, rigor, and curiosity.

Our school is a K-8 focus-option public school in Portland, Oregon.

We strive to help our students become critical thinkers, courageous problem-solvers, and compassionate community builders by creating classrooms that offer opportunities for students to design their own projects and find creative means of communicating their learning. We count on our students to teach and learn from each other, and we expect our older students to model responsibility and inclusivity for their younger peers.

This project will specifically benefit students in grades 6-8, who need new options for novels sets to challenge them in the classroom.

My Project

My students loop with me for three years. Most of my students have exhausted the literary options in our classroom library. We rely on small book discussion groups and novel studies to examine plots, styles, character development and authors' purposes. Since I have sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, we have quite a range of readings, so we need books at a variety of levels that span literary genres.

New novel sets will allow my students opportunities to read new and exciting literature and expand their experiences with new genres, themes and authors.

I am seeking novels that will interest my students and challenge them with complex themes, dynamic characters and new ideas.
