Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Due to a tight school budget, I am not able to order new scientific equipment for my classroom; even though the equipment is broken. Because of this, I feel that my students will not have the opportunity to develop many of the laboratory skills necessary to be successful in a modern science class.

I teach at a charter high school that is located in Brooklyn, NY.

Most of the students who attend this school, come from poverty. And for many of my students, they will be the first in their family to graduate high school. These children are bright and well behaved. They only wish to have the opportunity to learn and grow. We have a large number of students with special needs, as well as, students who are not fluent in English. These students require more hands-on type of learning to help them to be successful. The microscopes that you help provide will do wonders for them. It will allow them to develop skills necessary for later high school classes and beyond.

My Project

Many of the topics that I teach in my class involves talking about the cell and/or microscopic organisms. Although I can find pictures on the Internet of all the items that I talked about, there is nothing better than having the students investigate for themselves. Science is all about asking questions and exploring; having working microscopes can help widen my students horizons from the Internet and help them find answers to their own questions.

In a biology class, a microscope is very important piece of equipment for learning.

All high school students should have the opportunity to work with a microscope. Having the right equipment in my classroom is very important no matter what subject is being taught. By funding these microscopes, you are helping my students open their eyes to a whole new but very small world.
