My Students
Have you ever held a live sea star, sea urchin, or any other living marine organism? Have you ever watched a shark embryo develop into a newly hatched baby shark? Now you can. We are going to bring to ocean to you.
My new high school students are just like my past students, they want so desperately to learn about our oceans and the things they see live in them.
Now they can. So many students are interested in marine biology, yet know nothing about the field. I am introducing this world to them via Marine Biology instruction, and a unique new hands-on facility.
My Project
This project is to enhance Davis High School's marine biology, zoology, and biological science programs. The Marine Science Center allows students to learn about scientific concepts in an exciting and engaging environment. Teachers utilize the facility to teach marine biology, biology, zoology, chemistry, and ecology, and actually have live animals in miniature reef ecosystems to teach with. This center will house some amazing ocean animals such as: Damselfish, Anemones, Corals, Brittle Stars, Sea Stars, Sea Urchins, Shark Eggs, Baby Sharks, Hermit Crabs, and Marine Snails. Currently, no other school in Utah has a marine biology program such as this. This new marine science center will be unique to all of Utah.

By housing numerous living marine specimens in the facility, students will have constant access to these organisms for research purposes, various labs, and hand-on experiences.
This center helps integrate science content into various other disciplines. The practical application of scientific principles results from participating in activities associated with the marine science center.
