Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some of my kids travel from stable areas of the Bronx, some from a little further away, some from shelters right around the corner. My students range in experiences and come from all walks of life. Whatever their origin they have one common issue; their exposure to literature that allows their mind to soar.

Every year I have the challenge of finding texts my students can bury themselves inside.

Regardless of where they return home to rest their head I want them to learn and understand sometimes the best place to be is inside the pages of a book.

My Project

I have a new batch of wonderful kids this year learning in the building. Many have expressed interest in independent reading and with such a diverse collection of individuals I hope that these books can meet the expectation.

Enjoying literature is about finding oneself in the pages.

With the selections chosen I hope that kids will not only do just that but that it will spark a desire for continued interest in reading and open new doors of exploration.

Students will be able to check books out, use the text for independent reading and discussions in class.
