Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine coming to this country and expecting a beautiful new life, only to come into a school building that is old, overcrowded, and falling apart. After many, many years of discussion about a new building, it is finally opening this fall! And my students deserve it.

Most of my students are diverse refugees and immigrants, speaking over 25 different languages, including Spanish, Burmese, Nepali, Somali, Swahili, and Arabic.

These kids are often overlooked and forgotten, but this new building is a huge confidence booster and reminds them that they are important.

My Project

With our new building comes a new library, with more space to add more programs and reach more students. The first thing I want to add to the library is more STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) learning through a Makerspace in the library.

A Makerspace is place where students can create, inquire, explore, build, and collaborate.

With this Makerspace, my students will begin to associate the library with technology and discovery, not just books. Students will also build their collaboration and problem solving skills that will be help them be successful in every subject. This Makerspace will be open for all students in grades K-4.
