This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember your first day of kindergarten? Coming into a room filled with the most wondrous things to make your day fun while you were learning. I want my kindergarten room to look like that also. Sadly this is not the case.

I teach Kindergarten to 25 young and eager children in a Title One school which means that my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch and their families are considered below the poverty line in a NYC public school in Queens.

My school is truly a "melting pot" of cultures. Many of my students are English Language Learners and need to have many opportunities to explore and practice skills that they will need as they move through their academic and personal lives. Budget cuts have made anything except bare basics impossible. My children need and deserve more. I want to bring the world to my students so that they can take their place in the world.

My Project

I am moving into kindergarten from 4th grade and my room is bare of materials except for tables and chairs. I am asking for letter stamps and alphabet puzzles so my students may have opportunities to experiment with letters and make words. I am asking for counters and math games and math puzzles so my students can have opportunities to develop a concrete understanding of numeracy so they will go on to develop abstract math thinking. I am asking for stamp pads so my students can use the letter stamps to create words. These are basic skills that all students need to be successful in school and in like. Being able to read and understand math are essentials. I want to be able to give my students every opportunity to succeed. Hands on authentic experiences make learning more meaningful and create a strong foundation for future learning.

Most of my students are first generation Americans and their families are struggling to survive.

They want the best for their children. Your donation to my project means that my students will have more opportunities to practice basic skills and develop fluency in both English and math. Children construct their own knowledge. I want them to have all the tools they need to help them construct a huge body of knowledge. Please consider us worthy of a donation.
