My Project

This year I will have the privilege of fostering a love of learning in some amazing 5-year-olds. These students have been chosen for the first gifted and talented class at our school. These children possess giftedness in many diverse areas and have shown the ability to be exceptional in their creativity and thinking. As we explore and grow, many of the lessons will be student-led and will incorporate hands-on experiences through a project and problem-based learning. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding, we don't have many of the foundational items to establish working centers within the classroom.

The materials chosen will make a difference in their learning by engaging their senses and thereby causing a greater level of comprehension and retention.

For example, a math lesson on shapes would be followed by extension work utilizing pattern blocks to construct things we see in our community. Magnetic tiles could be used to build ramps or invent vehicles as we discuss the motion. Whiteboards and markers would be utilized during write-the-room activities and literacy games.
