My Students

My students are phenomenal. This is my second year and every student that has come through my classroom so far holds a special place in my heart. It amazes me how kind, thoughtful, funny, and intelligent all of these kids are and it makes me want to do everything I can to give back to them.

This school is so special to me, as are the kids, because this is my hometown.

I walked the same halls, lived in the same areas, and even had some of the same teachers. Now I am back and I want to do everything in my power to make their experience as special as mine was.

My Project

The desks in my classroom currently are desks with chairs attached and arm bars on the side. The arm bars are falling off the desks and leaving sharp edges causing myself and my students to get accidentally scratched and/or our clothes ripped. Since the chairs are attached, some students are unable to comfortably sit in them and it is difficult to put them into groups for collaboration.

My goal is to get all new desks and seating that will not only be safer and sturdier, but allow for more collaboration.

The adjustable desks may seem plain, but I am going to put forth some of my own money to purchase primer and whiteboard paint and paint the tops of all the desks so that the surface of each desk will be a dry erase board which I know the students will LOVE! The Royal Seating 1100 stacking chairs are lightweight and will be easy to move for activities, and at the end of the year.

Getting these desks would address so many needs in my classroom. They would offer more space, more comfort, safer sturdier seating, and more opportunities for collaboration among peers! I know this is a HUGE goal to accomplish by September 11 but I know with the help of the community, it can be met!
