Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Despite not being in school for almost 2 school years, my students have shown resilience. They are eager to learn every day and come to school ready to learn. They are well-behaved and follow the rules inside and outside the classroom. In class, however, they may need a few breaks in between class activities.

The classroom environment is calm and colorful and includes a Zen Corner.

Students can take breaks here and feel comfortable as they read books or use the Play-Doh.

My Project

I want to provide a safe place where students are able to take time to self-regulate. With the pillows and beanbag chairs to create a comfortable area in our classroom, I will have a more engaging Zen Corner and start creating a stronger classroom community. My students will feel more comfortable showing their feeling and building rapport.

A few key things for an effective Zen Corner include a calming space, no cell phones, and plenty of tools to allow for self-regulation.

The pen and whiteboard are something my students requested in order to do a “brain dump” to help get those negative thoughts out of their heads. Sometimes we get inside our own head and stop ourselves from moving forward. With brain dumps, they can write all those negative thoughts out.
