My Students

My classroom is filled with a group of culturally diverse children with a variety of different learning styles. They are just five and six years old and beginning their first true school experience.

Each child brings with them a different set of needs each day.

Some students benefit from flexible seating and others from more traditonal. The chairs I have selected allow for movement since they are far less rigid to sit in. Students will be able to lean back slightly without falling over. This will provide a much safer sitting experience for each child.

My Project

Our school was built in 1951. I think the chairs have been there since the mid 80's. They are heavy, clunky, and very hard for my kindergarten students to move. We have just learned that on sweeping days, our students must put their chairs up on the desks. This is a dangerous practice for such young children. The chairs are far too heavy for a 5 year old to lift. New chairs will alleviate this challenge and give the kids more comfortable seats to sit in daily.

Additionally, these particular chairs that I have selected allow for a more comfortable sitting experience.

These chairs will allow the children to slightly lean back without tipping, and will also allow them to lift them safely to be placed on the table at the end of each day. This is much safer for such young students. Putting their physical health in danger to make it so that our floors can be swept simply does not sit well. I would like to ensure my students' safety and this will truly help.
