Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school, located in a very culturally diverse neighborhood in Queens. We service students of all backgrounds and abilities, from Pre-K through 8th grade. Many students spend their Pre-K, elementary, and middle school years in this building, so we get to see the community grow and create life-long bonds and friendships.

Working in this school is a privilege that I hold very near and dear because I grew up in this neighborhood.

I went to school a few blocks away at a neighboring school, and I grew up with some of the parents of the children I now service.

My Project

In my self-contained classroom, most of my learners have reading deficits. These new books will excite my students, and engage them in reading books they can successfully read on their own. Many books in my current library are old or on higher levels that my students struggle to read. This new selection of books will give my students an opportunity to be excited about reading. This variety of leveled books will provide books for students at lower levels and higher levels and give them room to improve. These books will make my students excited to progress in their reading levels.
