Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with 35 amazing students in an ICT classroom, which means half of my kids are special education and half are general education. I currently teach at a high needs middle school in the south Bronx. My students are very motivated to learn, and over the course of last school year, we have built a wonderful community of readers. The kids have all learned how to love books, and every single student in the class has moved up at least 3 reading levels-come have moved up as many as 10 levels in 10 months!

When my principal asked if I would like to move up with my kids and my co teacher, I jumped at the opportunity.

I have been so fortunate to teach them this year, and I can't believe I will be lucky enough to teach and learn with them again next year!

My Project

My students are just discovering that they could love to read. In order for this momentum to continue, they need to love their book options. Due to budget cuts, our school lost our library, so a great classroom library is our only option.

It is my ultimate goal as a teacher to create lifelong readers.

In order to do this, an amazing classroom library is necessary. Many of my students do not have access to books at home. I want my classroom library to be as diverse and fun as possible in order for my students to foster their love books and reading.
