Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are mostly a year to two (and sometime three!) years below grade level. They need lots of high-interest books to keep them motivated during independent reading. I've put together a list of books that will replenish and refresh our library.

I teach in an inclusion classroom.

Our class is comprised of both learning disabled and non-disabled students. We have many students who are also English Language Learners. We are a Title I school located in a densely populated area in New York. My students have few books at home and tend not to have access to computers and the library. Despite these challenges, my students are an amazing, bright and motivated bunch. They are full of empathy and kindness and I feel proud to have the privilege of teaching them!

My Project

I have requested some fabulous children's series, fiction and non-fiction titles. These will be new books for the classroom and I can guarantee they will be hot commodities! Struggling readers learn best by reading LOTS of books at their level, and as such, we need an abundant classroom library. Economic times are tight, and there is little (or even zero) money to be spent on books. My students need your assistance. These books will help raise their academic achievement.

I love what I do and I want to provide my kids with the best!

When I was a new teacher, I spent over $1,000 of my own money stocking the classroom library. Now I need your help to give my students what they deserve -- a class full of books that interest them. I so appreciate your generosity and can promise each and every book will be read! Many thanks!!
