Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The current situation is something I never imagined we would be facing. My first graders are so little and really don't understand what is going on at this time. They just know that they miss their teachers and their friends. We didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to them or pack up for the year.

Students, teachers, administrators and parents have all been working together to learn a new way of teaching that is incredibly challenging to accomplish, when we are all in different places.

Our school and our city has never embarked on a task of this magnitude before.

Our students have been incredibly hard working during this time. Their favorite time is our weekly morning meetings when we go over the calendar and talk about our feelings. It's a time when the kids get to see each other and it creates a sense of normalcy for them.

My Project

Currently, we are teaching all of our lessons remotely. Students are reading books online. They have the same five books they left with in March when everything shut down. Students, luckily, have a lot of books online to read for now while we are learning remotely. Teachers never had a chance to pack up their classrooms, so we don't know what shape our library will be in next Fall.

It is vital that we have some new books for students to take home and read, so they can get a break from their devices.

The kids deserve this after all they have been through.
