My Students

"Can I go book shopping?" is the question students continue to ask a teacher every week. I would love for my students to continue loving books and to always be excited for the next one they are about to read. This can be tricky when our library lacks the variety and quantity of books they need.

To the children of our school in Queens, school is one of their favorite places.

They know that when they come to school they will learn and they will be loved. They are empathetic, kindhearted, and determined young individuals. They learn these qualities from their peers, teachers, and even the books they indulge in. Our school provides these children with the skills they need in order to succeed in middle school, high school, and in life. We place a heavy importance on literacy, doing our absolute best to raise their reading and writing skills. Our students make this easy for us because of how much they love reading books. They cannot wait to get their hands on the next new book!

My Project

Students in the 4th grade will begin the year learning how to choose a "Just Right" book. This is a book that is on their reading level and a book that they are interested in reading. In order for students to choose a "Just Right" book, our library needs a variety of genres to help kids explore which one they are most intrigued by. Throughout the year, students will be using these books to engage in discussions with their peers.

The donations to this project will help students on their journey through 4th grade by introducing them to a variety of books, authors, series, and genres.

Students will also need books on different reading levels as they move up through the year.
