My Students

Do you remember the first time you read a book with a character who looked like you or had a similar background to you? The experience of reading a character that reflects your experience is a powerful one. On the other hand, all children benefit from reading and learning about diverse experiences.

As readers, my students devour texts and are excited to read about multiple viewpoints and experiences.

They would love to have new books added to their book club unit.

My Project

My students love reading, and I am seeking money to help add more diverse and new YA books to our upcoming book club unit. We are seeking The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton, I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sanchez, and What If Its Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli.

My students are inquisitive, avid readers who love learning.

We plan to use these books in our upcoming book club unit, which centers YA or teenage narrators. Historically, this has been the favorite unit, as freshman self-select their books and meet daily in literature circle to discuss the texts.

Having a more diverse set of books will enrich the unit for all students.
