Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is composed of 55 fifth graders in a general education class, with students with IEP and ELL learners and special education students such as autism.

A typical day in my classroom looks active.

My students are engaged in learning activities that get them moving, talking to their peers, and asking great questions. You will not see a lot of worksheets in my classroom. My students are learning through hands-on experiences.

I teach in a Title I school. My fifth-grade students come from very diverse families. I am excited to share that my school is a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My scholars are creative, thoughtful, and full of excitement!

My students are 9 and 10-year children that love coming to school. When school was closed in the spring of 2020 due to the pandemic the kids desperately wanted to come back. We miss seeing their smiling faces every day.

My Project

I will use my bicycles, helmets and accessories to teach skills like following directions and coordination. They can also be used during free play and as incentive for good behavior. Students will be taught safety skills as well. The skies the limit with these awesome riding tools.

Students who have not been taught to ride a bike can learn with their peers modeling in a safe location with responsible supervision.

I can teach direction and listening skills. Also, we can have races and participate in an obstacle course.

Students will be more cooperative when participating in regular P.E. if they know that the bikes will be there when they have completed the required skills.

A side-by-side tricycle will give our students this opportunity. This tricycle will allow our students to sit next to us while we pedal and steer, and get a feel for what it’s like to ride a bicycle. Our students are given the opportunity to ride on these trikes for only a couple weeks out of the entire school year, as they do not belong to our school. Their faces light up every time they have the chance to ride. By receiving our own trike, we will be able to give our students that excitement all year long.
