This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Serving as a general music teacher for Kindergarten through 5th grade has become a lifelong dream I didn't even know I had until I randomly decided to fill in as a sub. Being in this position full time for 3 years now, I see the need for new and updated music room supplies as well as exposure to different kinds of instruments.

My overall goal as an elementary music teacher is to provide new and different experiences through music, whether that's playing an instrument, singing in a different language, or creating their own music.

Having the resources to do that is imperative, not just for teaching but to give students ample opportunities to learn and understand.

Many of our rhythm sticks & scarves are ripped or broken, so replacing them are key to not getting splinters. Over 80% of my students are Spanish speaking so teaching through activities or providing interactive learning is a huge help. This is also a key element when providing services for special needs students. Utilizing a parachute and floor piano can aid in doing just that. Being able to teach about sound effects or helping student recreate sounds is a really fun lesson that the students love. Rain sticks and a tongue drum are great examples of how to do that.
