My Students

My students come from various walks of life, all which have led them and their families to the great urban metropolis of New York City, District 2 to pursue their American Dream. Our school is over twenty-five percent free and reduced lunch and about eighty-five percent of our students are first-generation. My students come to school and to class each and every day, even on Saturdays, with a vigor to learn and a desire for success. My students have diverse educational, emotional, and social needs and as their teacher, I feel it is my responsibility to teach and afford them as many opportunities as possible.

My Project

Have you ever been hungry and can't focus because all you can think about is food? Well, this is the case for many of my students. Ms. Hansen's office is a "general store hub" for a snack to appease the afternoon or morning grumbling tummies. We need help stocking the shelves so students can grab a snack and sustain themselves for the hard work of the day. Your donations will go towards food and drinks which goes directly to the students daily. How does it work? Well, students can come to get a snack anytime in between classes, in the morning, or after school and all I ask in return is for them to write on a post-it a kind word about another student to support our community with kind words and recognize others for their actions of community, tenacity, kindness, or any other admiral characteristics. Your donations are two fold. Firstly, you are feeding our NYC kids, and second, you are teaching them to recognize all gestures of kindness big and small; and to acknowledge eachother for the postiive actions within our school community.
