My Students

Do you remember not being able to read the words but loved listening to the stories and following along? That is how some of my students feel!

My students are in third grade and attend a charter school.

My class has 13 boys and 13 girls who all get along with each other. They are so funny I have to turn away so they don't see me laugh. They are kind, caring and always putting forth their best effort. They love to read and listen to read-alouds and are excellent at making connections.

My Project

In my classroom we use the Daily 5 to help implement our reading curriculum. The Daily 5 set-up also allows me, as their teacher, to differentiate instruction. One of the centers is Listen to Reading. Right now my class is unable to do this because I only have one set of headphones and no books on CD. By providing read-along books and a junction box, you would be funding our whole center. This would also allow my higher students to challenge themselves with difficult readings and my lower students be able to listen to stories at their level. By including the sorting box I would be able to sort my books for my students and they would be able to quickly choose what they wanted and have more time for reading.

Literacy is very important, in school and in every day life.

I feel it is my responsibility to encourage my students to read and develop their passion for it. A way I can do this is by having them listen to stories and that is what this project will fund. You will be creating a new way for my students to enjoy literacy at their own level.
