Got school supplies? Teachers need Donors Choose and grants now more than ever. Throughout the school year teachers spend a lot of their own income to buy the basic supplies they need to teach on a daily basis.
I teach second grade at a Title One School where 93 percent of the children are on free or reduced lunch.
Many of the students have a hard time bringing in their basic school supplies much less extra supplies for the classroom. Without these supplies it makes it almost impossible to provide instruction during the week and to assess kids to see what they know.
My Project
We use our dry erase boards constantly throughout the day in small group math and reading time. We also use them for our problem solving math time. This is one of their favorite ways to solve problems. However, the children quickly go through dry erase markers. We need erasers for them to use when working in math and reading so that they each have their own eraser.
We do many projects where the students work on making posters or cooperative learning activities where they use markers. We also have started using highlighters in math and reading to highlight the key information or clues that help them find their answers.
Every year it gets harder to get supplies for our classroom.
We use our dry erase boards and markers on a regular basis throughout the day. This is a great way to assess the students without having to continuously make paper copies to assess them. By purchasing these supplies for our classroom you will make it easier to help teach and assess my students throughout the day.
