My Students

By now most of you know how engaged students become when learning using applications on the iPad2. Many of you generously donated funds for my students to have an iPad2! At the time, I thought I would be able to project it easily for all to share but after much research I have learned we need an accessory!

Like many students, our kiddos don't have a lot of outside school experiences like educational trips with families or cool vacations where a lot of authentic learning takes place.

Also, our current school budget does not allow for many field trips. I am using the iPad to show students space simulations and other types of very important applications to try and fill in some of the exposure gaps that the students have. I was assuming that when the iPad2 arrived, I would be able to easily plug it in and it would work with my Activ-Board. After buying one cable after another, I have come to learn that I need Apple TV to "mirror" the iPad2. This will enable our use of the iPad to be a shared experience that students can benefit from more fully. The iPad2 is a great teaching tool, we just need Apple TV to be able to fully use it.

My Project

Being able to project the entire solar system or an interactive math game such as Rocket Math would really help the students get involved more in their learning. Right now, the students are only able to use the iPad2 in pairs. We are not currently able to use the iPad2 to its fullest potential. When I requested the iPad2, it was my hope that we would be able to do whole group activities.

Without caring people like you, my students would not be reaching for the stars! They are enjoying the iPad2 very much and we are even doing some fun, silly stuff with some of the applications which is really helping the students to relax and be "available" to learn. If we can have an Apple TV (which by the way, is not a television, it's a tiny adapter box that will enable the iPad2 to project) the kiddos could get involved at a deeper level!!
