My Project

Hello! I am a teacher at COAMS in North Highlands California. I teach both English and Leadership. The pandemic caused lunchtime clubs to disappear at our school, and their absence has impacted the community negatively. My leadership students have worked hard to bring them back.

Our school is made up of 97% slavic students, almost all being first or second-generation immigrants.

(This website's demographics are incorrect.) A significant portion of them have moved here as refugees, fleeing the war in Ukraine. About 75% of the student population is on a free or reduced lunch program.

Students have been begging me to have my classroom available to play chess and checkers as a way to socialize during their lunch hour. They have shown strong interest in learning and improving at both games.

We hope that with your help we can make this possible.
