This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help special needs students become more independent by giving them access to a portable computer.
My students are all categorized as severely and physically disabled.
They all have Cerebral Palsy and are confined to electric and manual wheelchairs. Independent living skills is something that we focus on in class. One way a student can be independent is by being able to access a computer. My students can work on data entry, word processing, accessing the internet, composing and sending emails, etc. Currently we have only one working computer for my eight wheelchair students to access. A laptop computer would be extremely beneficial because it is portable and my students would not have to worry about sharing space with other wheelchair students.
My Project
This laptop computer would double our current amount of computers to two. Computer skills are very important for student to learn these days, and special needs students are no exception. This laptop would allow my students to utilize a brand new piece of technology (our other computer is about 15 years old). My students will: learn software programs, access the internet, create email accounts, enter data, play education software games, etc.
This laptop will make a difference to my students because it will make them feel special.
For the past two years, they have accepted that there is only one computer and that we are limited to the things we can do on it. Being in wheelchairs makes it difficult to work on the desktop computer which makes a laptop computer an awesome addition to our class.
More than half of students from low‑income households
