Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a Title I school where many of my students are Hispanic, coming from single family homes. Parents are dealing with many environmental factors that make daily life extremely difficult, even just making ends meet.

My students are resilient and always eager to learn.

They are amazing and regardless of the circumstances really try their best to learn.

My Project

Currently, we are learning remotely. My students really enjoy STEM-related activities. Our school has adopted the "CGI" approach. CGI stands for Cognitively Guided Instruction which involves the solving of and discussion of problems. We use Seesaw and Jamboard to discuss and solve math problems to help facilitate class discussion around math.

Eventually, we will be returning to a hybrid classroom and the technology is necessary to continue small group instruction during our math STEM-based project block.

At the moment, we are constantly on Zoom, which is a difficult application for our students. The portable monitor will allow us to view both the teacher screen and the work of the students to be showing at one time. A working document camera will be used so I can place work on the monitor, scan work for students, and allow the students to further understand the various topics in depth.
