Need Books! Books! Just Mercy

My students need a class set of the incredibly powerful text "Just Mercy" about injustice and compassion with the hope of justice. It is the modern day version of "To Kill a Mockingbird".

My Students

My students are juniors in high school and are studying injustices in society with a focus on the criminal justice system. This is a critical thinking course and students are challenged to research, discuss, debate, and engage in the issues of the day. I am eager to bring them this compelling story about injustice in our country.

History must come alive for students, not through textbooks but through authentic texts and resources.

My NYC public high school in Long Island City, Queens has limited resources and can use all the help it can get. We strive to bring in depth experiences of American history and American society to our students.

My Project

This text will help my students get a clear understanding of the failures of our criminal justice system and how race and justice are important issues facing our society. Bryan Stevenson tells as compelling story about injustice and makes the reader reflect on how we can allow the death penalty to happen in our country.

My students are studying a full semester on the different aspects of our criminal justice system and this authentic text/memoir will be a powerful tool to drive conversation and reflection in our classroom.

Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson is a great book which many accolades and I believe is grade appropriate for my 11th graders.
