This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work for a wonderful school on the south side of Chicago. The South Shore neighborhood, where Michelle Obama grew up, consists of primarily black students, all of low socioeconomic status. All of them receive free breakfast and free lunch.
While the staff is extremely supportive, the school still needs so many supplies and resources.
I teach 4th-grade literacy and math, and my classroom includes several diverse learners.
My students are hardworking and eager to learn despite their difficult home lives. I want to make their classroom a warm, accepting environment where they won't be lacking in the resources they need in order to learn!
My Project
We use personalized online learning programs that can develop personalized lessons for struggling students.
The thing is, I need a printer to print these lessons on the spot, as to build the skill the student is working on right away.
Currently, my school laptop is extremely slow and must be plugged into the charger to work. A working laptop would give me so much more mobility! 1/3 of my students are Diverse Learners, and personalized learning and remediation are vitally important to their Individualized Education Plans. These tools would ensure I would be able to quickly and thoughtfully differentiate content for ALL my students!
