My Students

The majority of my students come from low-income families. Also, their parents are working parents who sometimes work through the day and night to help support their families. Although their parents are interested in their education, sometimes it is difficult for them to be involved and to help them because they are too busy trying to make ends meet. So the majority of their learning happens in school and only at school. It is important that, as their teacher, I have quality materials to help ensure that they are learning to the best of their abilities.

Many of my students are interested in learning, but it's difficult for them to do so because of certain struggles that they are dealing with at home.

A few of my students are living in shelters and come to school with the same clothing on for a week. Some of them don't have socks on their feet and their shoes are too small. Many of the students also live in homes with only one parent due to split ups or divorce. My students are sweet, innocent children who deserve the very best education.

My Project

The variety of basic classroom materials that I have chosen for this project will help my student's learn. This year has been especially difficult and with budget cuts across NYC, teachers have suffered. We no longer get any funding to help buy basic everyday supplies we need to run a successful classroom. All of the supplies that I am requesting are supplies that help me and my student's function on a daily basis.

Chart paper, ink for printers, pens, dry erase markers, student books are all examples of basic necessary supplies a classroom needs to help students learn.

Having these supplies will lessen the burden I have on having to purchase them out of my own pocket. It can become very expensive to run a classroom if we do not have any funding.
