Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Having students build a terrarium serves multiple educational purposes, blending hands-on learning with theoretical understanding in an engaging and interactive way. Firstly, it provides a practical application of ecological and biological concepts. Students can observe the water cycle, photosynthesis, and the interdependence of organisms within a contained environment. This real-world application of classroom theory can deepen understanding and retention of complex scientific principles.

Constructing a terrarium fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Students must carefully select plants and other components that will coexist harmoniously, considering factors such as light, moisture, and soil requirements. They learn to plan and execute a project, troubleshoot any issues that arise, and adapt their approach based on their observations. This process enhances their analytical skills and teaches them the importance of research and preparation.

Lastly, building terrariums encourages environmental ownership and a sense of responsibility. As students care for their mini-ecosystems, they gain a greater appreciation for the delicate balance of natural habitats and the importance of sustainability. This hands-on experience can inspire a lifelong interest in environmental science and conservation, fostering a generation that values and protects the natural world. Overall, terrarium projects are a multifaceted educational tool that enriches students' learning experiences in meaningful and lasting ways.
