With my recent reassignment to the kindergarten classroom, I have become inspired by the forest kindergartens of Europe. There, young children often start their school experiences by learning natural science, social skills, and teamwork by exploring nature with their classmates. With our wonderful school forest right on campus, why not provide such experiences to the kindergarteners here?
These supplies will allow my kindergarteners participate in high quality outdoor experiences to engage their executive functioning.
Just imagine: With supplies and safety whistles packed in our orange backpacks, we will head out to the forest. Students wearing waterproof suspenders will hike the muddy trails, splash in the puddles, explore the ditch, and be outdoors in the rain when everyone else is inside. We will collect plants to make art on our nature print paper, and capture insects to inspect under our microscopes. After a long wet day outside, we will stop at the outdoor classroom for a hot drink of tea.
