My students are the kindest and most caring young adults that I have met. COVID has dealt us a blow that we are still recovering from. Having spent over a year in distance learning, many students have fallen behind in their studies. I am working to reignite their love of learning.
We are located on an Indian Reservation with high levels of poverty, and we fight to provide our students with every opportunity available at other schools.
My Project
After spending the past year and a half in distance learning, my students have been struggling to engage with school work. The majority of my students are Native American, and I am hoping that they will be able to better engage with a book that they can see themselves in.
We will be using these books to read as a whole class novel in order to learn about the dystopian genre.
It is both an accessible and a high interest novel. I hope that reading a novel with Native American main characters will help inspire a love of reading in my students.
