Help me give my students the experience of weaving in My Multicultural/Art/Poetry class with looms, yarn and needles as we embark on studying Native American cultures and their way of life.
Today's world is so busy, with families working 2 and 3 jobs to make ends meet. Our students need to learn to work together, compete with each other in and encouraging safe way. The school has a Program "Second Step" in which game playing will let the students put what they learned into practice
The make-up of the class is Hispanic and African American.
This is a public school in a urban area in California. We have 95% free lunch program. The school now has breakfast in the classroom. (I have found it is a tool to effect community building between myself and the students.) My students describe themselves as: thinking, outstanding, cooperative, intelligent, curious and creative. These children are bright and love to explore the world.
My Project
My students love to learn especially when it includes
"Hands-on" experiences.
The materials needed for this project are the hand held looms and tools, demonstration looms and the yarn (I have included many different colors for individual preferences) for the students to create their own Native American inspired woven bracelets.
We need the looms and the yarn to create these Native American inspired bracelets. After learning how to weave my students will be able to create additional bracelets to master the technique and hopefully my students will be able to make a bracelet to share with a friend or family member.
