This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
“Sometimes real superheroes live in the hearts of small children fighting big battles” ~ Anonymous
My students are my superheroes.
They are smart and capable. They are unique, caring, and hilarious. Each day brings on a new adventure and I love to watch them explore and grow.
My students all have special needs. They are in an inclusive classroom 100% of the time. I collaborate with another wonderful teacher and four amazing aides who help to bring out the best in these children.
My Project
According to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, or NBPTS, "Every student deserves to be taught by an accomplished teacher. National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide."
Earning my certification in the area of Exceptional Needs will require me to reflect on my students individual learning needs.
I will meet my students where they are at academically, while still challenging them to learn, think and grow in that knowledge. Increasing their critical thinking skills, understanding mathematical concepts, and advancing their technological proficiency will be my main focuses.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
