This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

NYC kindergarten special education teacher. As a special education teacher, I work closely with students with ASD, health impaired and learning disabilities. My students work hard but often get overwhelmed and have challenges dealing with their emotions. Some students are nonverbal and have difficulties expressing their emotions. I would like to create a calming corner to support their emotional needs. Some of the things I would love to incorporate are sensory toys to help with stimulation, animal lap weight to help them keep grounded, and visual supports for my non verbal. The most important item I want in the calming corner are the tablets which they can use to watch their favorite educational shows as a brain break from class work. These items will help them self-regulate so they can decompress and be ready to work. With your support, I can provide my students with a calming corner with variety of options they can choose from to help them find their inner peace. Namaste!
