My Students

My special needs students reside in Brooklyn, NY, in a school district where many of the families are surviving on low incomes. The school does not have a budget to supply all students with the resources they need for distant learning.

My students are creative, clever and very enthusiastic about writing.

The majority of my students are writing below grade level. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to be used at home to help increase their success in our newly established, blended learning platform.

Students will need a set of resources that they keep at home to be used when they are not in the classroom This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have funds to obtain one set of materials for classroom use and another set for home use.

My Project

As a third grade Special Needs teacher, I see my students struggling with writing. They have exciting ideas but cannot get them on paper. They struggle with format, grammar and spelling.

These materials will enhance their writing experience as well as keeping them organized.

During the past three months of remote teaching, students struggled with finding materials for writing sessions. I would love to give each of my students a set of materials to keep them ready and organized for remote writing lessons.

I know my students will love this new addition to our distance learning class meetings, and they will have the materials on hand to complete their writing journey. I also hope this will entice them to want to write more.
