This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many families nowadays struggle with the ever demanding hustle and bustle of everyday life. This often leads to children lacking support in their learning journey especially after school and on weekends. My students are eager to learn and work hard at being accountable for their learning goals. I'm inspired to create this project for my first graders to have their very own learning enrichment bag that would contain academic enrichment materials and wholesome, ready-to-go mini snacks to keep their hungry tummies nourished.

We will use art supplies to add a personal touch to our very own canvas bags, along with DIY magnets, DIY suncatchers, and blank books to help inspire us to learn and create on-the-go.

We are a Title I school with budgetary resources at an all time low and teacher salaries are not even close to comparable to the cost of living in a city. My students have difficult home settings where items like nutritional after school snacks are unheard of because monies barely cover costs of basic needs.

My goal is to continue to academically empower my students by having items like storybooks about Earth Day and standing up for others, soon become second graders including a summer bridge workbook to help reduce the effects of the summer slide. I want them to decorate refrigerator magnets to display their work and suncatchers at home. My project includes ecofriendly, reusable canvas bags and students will use fabric paints and markers to decorate their own with flair. These will also help to send home nutritional snacks like juice boxes, crackers, ice pops, and fruit bars. An added enrichment resource is the use of STEM pop-it ten frames, dice, guided reading strips, and a fidget wrist band to increase learning focus.
