Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach twenty-five happy and excited-to-learn third graders, and all day long they have fun growing and thinking and trying their best. My students learn best when I generate excitement for learning. Over 32% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and everyone receives free breakfast.

Our school is a wonderful, small multicultural school located in Los Angeles.

Our school specializes in integrating art with our academic subjects. Having wonderful read-aloud books and markers will help our classroom have great discussions about important subjects. We will have art projects that tie into our discussions.

My Project

This is my first year teaching third grade. I am so excited to be able to share deep discussions with my wonderful students. I have requested read-aloud books that I will use to guide my students into deep discussions that tie into our multicultural social studies units. Some of these books are Encounter, The Train to Somewhere, and Cheyenne Again. For an introduction to our Science unit, I have requested The Great Kapok Tree. We will be able to use our depth and complexity icons to delve into this story.

The classroom set of markers will be used so my students can write and illustrate their work.

Students love to color with markers, and starting the school year with this set will be an amazing resource for our classroom!

I have also requested a magnetic classroom timer so my students can practice their multiplication tables, and easily write down the time it takes to complete a times test.
