Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Oh The Places You'll Go." As the great Dr. Seuss once said, the opportunities that the future can bring every one of us are endless. I remind my students that every day. They have the potential to achieve anything they can dream of and are willing to work for. I work to support them any way I can.

My students are middle school students attending a relatively new (6 years old) public school in the Bronx.

They are from diverse ethnic backgrounds and many of their families are struggling to stay sound in this economy. Although some have computer access, the majority of my students do not have a computer in their home. Additionally, due to their diverse ethnic backgrounds, many have moved here from out of the country and struggle to learn due to language barriers.

My Project

Each day when my students enter the room, the chalk board is covered with words and "catch phrases" to help get them engaged and excited to learn. In this technology-driven society, I believe that my students will benefit immensely from the addition of a laptop to our daily routine. Together we would be able to use this new resource to access the amazing interactive science experiments and virtual videos that are available online. Additionally, the laptop will provide visual support and assistance to those students who are struggling with language barriers and lower level learners by having graphics to accompanying all vocab and lessons. The uses for a class laptop are limitless. Most importantly, my eighth grade classes will be completing science exit projects in order to graduate to the high school, and the ability to aid them with the resources available online will be a tremendous help. It will be an especially treasured gift for those students who lack computers at home.

As a new teacher, I lack the financial resources to provide my students with a laptop for us to use and it would be an incredibly generous gesture to help to contribute to mission "SUPER SCIENTISTS!" I wholeheartedly believe that with donations to provide us with this resource, our science classroom will be rejuvenated and overflowing with opportunities to use technology to enhance the learning experience.

My students will also get a chance to see the generosity that exists in this world.
