My Students

Do you remember that first time you were able to pick up a book and read it all by yourself? Many of my students cannot do so yet. In order to make this happen, I need to give them a great introduction to reading and language.

My students are from a low-income area in Texas.

Due to a small classroom budget, I am not able to provide all the supplies they need to be successful readers. I want my students to learn to love words so that they can quickly become the great readers that I know they can be. Literacy is so very important at this age. This is the backbone of the rest of their eduction.

My Project

I have requested a set of games that encourages comprehension, a group of reader's theater plays and CD's, and a set of language cards that will encourage reading as well as providing the students with a sense of community. These resources will allow my students to greet each other with language. It will allow them to practice their fluency and listen to how sentences are read. It will also allow them to take their literacy skills to the next level and actually test their comprehension of what they have read. With these supplies I will be able to give my students the help that they need.

Donations to this project will directly effect my classroom.

These supplies are needed to make a difference in the daily life of my students. It is hard to compete with the television and computer, but I want to make sure that I catch my students' attention and install a love of literature into their lives.
