Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students understand the counselor's office is a safe space in school where they receive support around their well-being, as well as academics. It is the "hot spot" for venting, crying, celebrating, vulnerability and healing.

Fidgets, coloring books, SEL decor just to name a few, help to build a restorative environment where students can learn SEL tools, release emotions in a safe space and motivate themselves to do better by connecting with themselves, others and the school counselor.

The resources for this project can help support student needs, as well as the school counselor space which supports the student, the student-counselor relationship and at times even the student-teacher relationship.

What makes my students special is that they are part of a brave generation, who takes risks towards healing and have learned how to advocate for their mental health. They want to break the stigmas around mental health support by seeking the school counselor as an ally and a resource for Social- emotional and academic growth.
