My Students

The concepts presented in "Le Petit Prince" are not common to most literature books. They open the mind to new ideas, new ways of seeing things. “ It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye." Antoine de St-Exupery

I teach French in a an inner city Middle School.

My students are eager to learn. All they need is an opportunity to be presented for them to grab it and reach for the stars. A good 97% of the the students receive free or reduced lunch. That does not stop them from coming to school every day. Out of 212 Middle School students I teach, 43 are currently taking the High School French course.

My Project

All of my 43 High school level French students are not in the same class period. I would like to have a set of books in the classroom so that we may read and study together. I would also like to have some books placed in the library circulation so that the students can check out and read on their own if they so choose.

There is only 1 copy of this title available in the school library.

Most of my students do not have the means to purchase this novel. Having the opportunity to study this great piece of literature will give the students an opportunity to to broaden their horizons. There are no class sets of any French novels or literature in the entire school. This would be the first time that the students get this type of opportunity. An opportunity that students at more affluent school most likely have.
