This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every year I find myself trying to make each dollar stretch to purchase supplies for my new students. I try to supplement as much as possible, but my pocket never seems large enough and my wish list continues to grow.

I am the Art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.

We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.

My Project

Last year I had a funded project of Mr. Sketch smelly markers. I thought it would be fun just to order a few packs to try them out. The new "Smelly markers" (AKA Mr. Sketch scented markers) were a hit. Now, students don't want to use the old markers and simply want everything to smell! My kids loved them! We use the supplies during group work and art projects. The resources kept my students engaged at all times and I love the different colored noses I see from all the smelling going on during class. My students need 2 class sets of Mr. Sketch smelly markers for art class.

I know that my students deserve the best resources and this is why I am seeking a class set of Mr. Sketch scented markers that they can utilize on all group work projects.
