My students need six guitars and six guitar stands in order to participate in guitar class at the beginning of the new school year.

My Students

These kids would love to learn to play guitar! The students in my newly acquired building have yet to discover the joy of learning to play guitar - help them realize this wonderful life-long musical skill!

The students in both my buildings are from a rural community in Kansas where the district is in dire straits and cannot give the teachers a classroom budget at all.

I have taught guitars to students in my primary building and they are highly successful! They love learning folk, country, and rock songs and work really hard toward singing and playing for each other in class. They can hardly wait to get the guitars out each day! Some students have begged and borrowed guitars from family members, and I have been able to furnish a few guitars that I have found at garage sales for them. We still have 3-4 students sharing one guitar in most cases. Now that I am going to an additional building, none of these new students have guitars at all!

My Project

Having these guitars to add to the ones I have furnished for my students will allow each class to learn at the same rate and everyone will be able to sing and play at the same time. I believe that these students will remember what they are learning and will be able to use this skill for a lifetime. Wouldn't we all have wanted to learn to play guitar when we were kids? I have done this for two years and can't hardly wait to get started in my newly acquired building because I know the kids will just love it! We will be able to sit in a circle with our guitars and I will be able to show them finger positions and strumming techniques and they will echo what I am teaching them. Having the stands will help us to keep them in good condition. Often we play along with Cd's which makes us sound really good right away! In the past, we have even accompanied the audience at Christmas time while they all sang Christmas carols. That was fantastic and I hope to do the same in the new building.

When you donate money to help buy these guitars and guitar stands, you will be helping me give the students in both of my buildings the chance to learn the life skill of guitar playing.

You will also be a part of furthering kids' music education during a time in our nation when money is tight for the arts. We as teachers rely on people like you!
