My Project

The decline of art education in the classroom has been a growing problem in for many years now. Studies have shown that art education has an enormous benefit for students, both academically and socially. Additionally, art education is greatly beneficial for students with disabilities. I am a NYC District 75 teacher, that educates students with severe disabilities and I have been gifted the opportunity to bring art back into the classroom this year! On the flip side, art education has been vastly underfunded.

By donating to this project you will be helping myself and most importantly 70 students see the world and education from a different lens!

The majority of my students have been diagnosed with Autism and/or Emotional Disabilities which makes being in school a little tougher for these children. Adding an art education program to their daily schedule will give them a voice when they may have not had one before. These students will be able to express themselves socially and academically in ways that they have never imagined.

This year, students were introduced to a world of drawing, painting, and mixed media. My students flourished in the classroom and enjoyed learning each day. I would love to keep the momentum going throughout the rest of the year by introducing how we can work with clay and sculpture. My hope is that not only will students learn new skills, but that they will see doors opening for their future. In order for this to happen, I need all of the support I can gain in order to make this dream a reality.
