Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach 6th and 7th grade science in a Title I school in the Bronx to a precocious, curious group of junior scientists in a classroom that currently uses technology but could use a bit more to support the growing needs of learning STEAM concepts in 2025 and beyond. Currently, my classroom has a fully stocked Chromebook cart, and a SmartBoard that are both used daily to facilitate teaching and learning. I try to incorporate multiple opportunities for my junior scientists to use digital tools to help support their learning, but I know that I could do much more if given the opportunity and resources.

The items in this project will help to support the learning of my junior scientists by providing much needed technology based tools that will bring my classroom further into the 21st century by making it more student-centered and able to help my junior scientists develop skills that are essential for success in the modern world.

Items like the digital microscopes will help to make microscopy more accessible to my students on a daily basis because we currently have no way to view microscopic specimens in "real time" unless we use one of the traditional microscopes that can only be viewed one at a time. The document camera will help assist my teaching by giving me the ability to share hard copy documents, student work, etc while teaching. The privacy screens are needed because my school recently provided tables from another classroom(switching from normal classroom desks) as learning spaces for my students to further support my room in being a STEAM classroom. Students will need the privacy screens during assessments and other times when they may need to work independently without distractions. All of the items will support learning in my classroom in many ways.
