Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are smart, beautiful, enthusiastic first graders. They come from a variety of cultures, races, and socioeconomic levels. Some of their home languages include English, Spanish, Arabic, Tigrinya, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and more. As a dual language school, all students are learning to read, write, and speak both English and Spanish.

My curious and persevering children are ready to meet any challenges and learn everything possible!

They always want to know more to make the world a better place. Many students come from low-income homes and have not been able to access resources and experiences that other children take for granted. This does not stop their drive!

My Project

My students get to choose where they do their best learning. Some choose to stand while doing their work. Others will choose to sit on the floor at lower tables. Some choose to sit with others and others choose to sit in pairs or individually. Others will choose to sit in chairs at tables.

These seats and desks will give students more choice in flexibility in where and how they do their best learning.

Students have more ownership and learn to reflect and use their own knowledge about themselves and their learning. These chairs are mobile, can easily be cleaned, and are comfortable. The lap desks provide a sturdy surface and can be easily moved by students to a place where they can best focus on what they are learning.
